What is MFA or 2FA
Multi-factor authentication (MFA), also known as 2FA (two-factor authentication), is a security mechanism that requires users to present two or more pieces of evidence to prove their identity before gaining access to a digital wallet, account, or application.
Two factors are involved in the authentication process:
- Something you know: PIN number, created by you during your EPCS Registration.
- Something you have: Your smartphone (cellphone), with the ID.me app installed.
MFA acts as a crucial barrier, preventing unauthorized individuals from accessing critical data or performing critical actions. Although most people have password protection, few take extra steps to protect their accounts from unauthorized access. The use of MFA enhances security beyond the use of a username and password.

Troubleshoot Code Generator MFA / 2FA option
I have several codes in the app
If you delete and re-add the code generator MFA on your device, you may see more than one set of codes in the app. To avoid confusion, we recommend using the most recently added code and deleting older codes.
1. Open the ID.me Authenticator app.
2. Find the code you want to delete, swipe left, and select Delete.
3. Confirm by selecting Delete again.
